Quick Dal



  1. Yellow split moong dal-2 cups
  2. Mustard seeds–2 pinches
  3. Cumin seeds–2 pinches
  4. Garlic–1 clove crushed
  5. Curry leaves–5 leaves
  6. Salt –to taste
  7. Cumin powder–1 tsp
  8. Coriander powder–1 tsp
  9. Turmeric–1/2 tsp
  10. Ciltantro–finely chopped half cup
  11. Ghee–2 tbsp


Cook 2 cups of dal in 5 cups of water–this will take about 20-30min, simmer at the end when water is almost over and add seasoning to it. For seasoning-take another pan and add ghee to it, heat and wait until ghee gets melted, now add mustard and cumin seeds and wait until they splutter, add curry leaves, crushed garlic and red whole chilli. Add this seasoning to the cooked dal along with salt, cumin powder and coriander powder. Cook for another minute and turn off the stove, Now add cilantro at the end and mix. Variation can be done to this dal by adding any vegetables while the dal is cooking. Few vegetables that I recommend are gourds, squashes, zuchchini, white long radish. This can be cooked in the instapot as well by making the seasoning before cooking dal
